India commerce department starting of the year 2018 has asked states to focus on cargo and logistics issues to boost exports. Commerce department mentioned that smooth and easier movement of cargos in the state and skill development for logistics so that the logistics providers are specific services that will uplift the exports to India. Commerce industry minister must meet states ministers and release a ranking report of states based on their contribution to logistics and state industry. The objective is to keep the states tuned with latest technologies in logistics and freight and make them more active in making strategies to fine tune their export services with specific details. In a previous meeting with states secretaries about their export strategies the focus was on five chief components - promotion of services, value addition in goods, promoting organic cultivation, logistics and improved standards, certification, and tracebacks. This meeting was to hold to prepare the states for a bigger agenda of 2018 in the export industry for strategic growth. As there had been downturn due to demonetization and GST saw in the industry. Exporters are considered as Central government domains and state should use this as a tool for their development. In this meeting of state principal secretaries on export and cargo movement export infrastructure facilities like warehousing, container depots were covered whereas other important aspects like cargo movement and development of multimodal logistics were underprivileged and were missed out.
